Deep Throat gave me this bad perm

"I don't know what the talking points are yet. ... My personal opinion is that he's a traitor." - Mary Matalin

Apparently Mary Matalin is the only one out of the loop; the talking point is that Deep Throat personally caused our failure in Vietnam and Cambodia. Deep Throat told the truth, millions died.

In The American Spectator, former Nixon crony Ben Stein (I left him off the last post!) claims the people who brought down Nixon caused:

1.) The defeat of the South Vietnamese government with decades of death and hardship for the people of Vietnam.

2.) The assumption of power in Cambodia by the bloodiest government of all time, the Khmer Rouge, who killed a third of their own people, often by making children beat their own parents to death. No one doubts RN would never have let this happen.

In The Wall Street Journal, former Reagan crony Peggy Noonan agrees with former Nixon crony Stein:

Nixon's ruin led to a cascade of catastrophic events--the crude and humiliating abandonment of Vietnam and the Vietnamese, the rise of a monster named Pol Pot, and millions--millions--killed in his genocide. America lost confidence; the Soviet Union gained brazenness. What a terrible time. Is it terrible when an American president lies and surrounds himself by dirty tricksters? Yes, it is. How about the butchering of children in the South China Sea. Is that worse? Yes. Infinitely, unforgettably and forever.

On The Today Show, former Nixon crony Pat Buchanan claims:

And what he did, was help destroy an enormously popular president, and partly as a consequence of that, what 58,000 Americans died for in Vietnam, was poured down a sewer.

The Watergate break-in took place June 17, 1972. What else had happened by June 1972?

* Nixon had withdrawn U.S. troops from Vietnam, from a high of 543,000. By the time of the Watergate break-in, U.S. troop levels were around 70,000

* The North Vietnamese had launched their Easter Offensive into Quang Tri Province, from which they would not be ejected.

* The My Lai massacre story had been in the news for three years.

* The Pentagon Papers had been published one year earlier.

* Nixon has already made peace offers to Hanoi. Congress has rescinded the Gulf of Tonkin resolution.

* By the time Nixon is re-elected in November, 1972, the last US combat troops had withdrawn from Vietnam.

So apparently Deep Throat didn't cause the collapse of Vietnam. The war was basically lost by that time, with Nixon withdrawing most of the American troops. But that won't stop the noise machine from using the millions of Southeast Asian corpses as a weapon against someone they don't like.

that's one of the things about the calendar: it'susually not susceptible to revision (well sometimes...)
