When did that happen?

Today is the anniversay of D-Day, which set the little squirrels in my brain running around their wheels. I found a neat website for my new idea related program activity: Date Duration Calculator. The question is this: which lasted longer, the US involvement in WWII, or the "War on Terra" ? You will be startled by the answer:

WWII:

From and including: Sunday, December 7, 1941
To, but not including : Wednesday, August 15, 1945

It is 1,347 days from the start date to the end date, but not including the end date

Or 3 years, 8 months, 8 days excluding the end date

War on Terra:
From and including: Tuesday, September 11, 2001
To, but not including : Monday, June 6, 2005

It is 1,364 days from the start date to the end date, but not including the end date

Or 3 years, 8 months, 26 days excluding the end date

So you can see that the "War on Terra" has lasted longer than WWII. And still no sign of Bin Laden.

It's kind of sad to think that we had an easier time taking down the Nazis than this nebulous, ill-defined "terror" threat. Though, shouldn't we count not from 9/11/01, but from the day we invaded Afganistan?

Well, as far as taking down the Nazis went, the Russians did a lot of the heavy lifting. In Iraq, thanks to our idiot president, we basically have no assistance from other countries.
Unfortunately, pretty much everyone we used to be able to count on for assistance hates us now.
