Meanwhile in Baghdad

It's Virginia Tech times six:

Baghdad death toll climbs to at least 183
Toll nationwide is 233; Arrest ordered for colonel in charge of Baghdad

BAGHDAD - Suspected Sunni insurgents penetrated the Baghdad security net Wednesday, hitting Shiite targets with four bomb attacks that killed at least 183 people — the bloodiest day since the U.S. troop surge began nine weeks ago.

so, when the "surge" started and u.s. military deaths went up, we were told that it was really a suckcess because iraqi civilian deaths were being prevented.

i wonder how this will be parsed as a suckcess? more desperation and last throes? or will it just illustrate how we need even more troops to stay even longer?

what possible course of events will NOT be parsed as a suckcess?
