More bizarre author news

Israeli author David Grossman's son was killed in Lebanon. About ten years ago a friend insisted I read Grossman's book "See Under: Love." It was an excellent book, but it made Pynchon look like light summer reading. Anyway, this post is my version of sitting shiva for Grossman pere and fils.

It was quiet, very quiet, in Mevasseret Zion yesterday. The Grossman family had received the grim news before dawn: Their son Uri, almost 21, who served as a tank commander in Lebanon, had been killed on Saturday when an antitank missile hit his tank. The other three crew members were also killed.

Grossman was the middle child of author David Grossman and his wife, Michal. They also have another son, Yonatan, 24, and a daughter, Ruth, 14.

Just last Thursday, David Grossman convened a press conference, along with fellow authors A.B. Yehoshua and Amos Oz, in which the three urged the government to work for an immediate cease-fire.
