Someone alert Malkin

Since the Unhinged One recently went into a frenzy when the Del Boca Vista condo complex raised a Mexican flag, this story from the NY Post should give her an aneurysm:

SHEA PLAYING A LATIN TUNE
ON & OFF DIAMOND

April 4, 2006 -- The so-called Latinization of the Mets was on full display at Shea Stadium yesterday - and not only on the field.

It was also to be found among the faces in the sellout crowd of 54,371 and at the ever-buzzing concessions stands.

Omar Minaya, the team's Dominican-born, Queens-raised general manager, spent part of the off-season increasing the number of Latinos on the opening-day 25-man roster from last year's nine to yesterday's 13.

But, in addition, the stadium's Diamond Club now offers something called the Original Havana Road House Famous Cuban Sandwich, a $4.50 concoction that loads roast pork, ham, Swiss cheese and a pickle on pressed flat bread.

"People seem to like it," said vendor Irwin Friedman. "It's selling pretty good."

So, too, were the quesadillas.

And while jerseys boasting the last names of such Met stars as Pedro Martinez, Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado dotted the stands, several others sported the logos from the Dominican, Mexican, Puerto Rican and Venezuelan teams that participated in last month's inaugural World Baseball Classic.

"I think it's great," said Ricci Melendez, 32, of Sayreville, N.J. "Latino players are the best."

Between innings, fans could be seen dancing to salsa or merengue music piped through the public address system.

I wouldn't worry about it. It's not like Americans want to be major-league baseball players. Not even if it paid $50 an hour.
